Pakistan is likely to get AIM-120 advanced medium-range air-to-air missiles (AMRAAMs) from the United States as relations between the two countries appear to be improving. Pakistan has also been included among 35 buyers of missiles in an arms contract recently notified by the US Department of War (DOW), formerly known as the Department of Defense.

Pakistan among buyers of AIM-120 AMRAAM
According to a news published in the newspaper ‘Express Tribune’, Pakistan is also named among the buyers of AIM-120 AMRAAM in an arms contract recently notified by the US Department of War (DOW). The notification said, “This agreement covers Britain, Poland, Pakistan, Germany, Finland, Australia, Romania, Qatar, Oman, Korea, Greece, Switzerland, Portugal, Singapore, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Japan, Slovakia, Denmark, Canada, Belgium, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Norway, Spain, Kuwait, “This includes foreign military sales to Finland, Sweden, Taiwan, Lithuania, Israel, Bulgaria, Hungary and Turkey.”

Although it is not clear how many new AMRAAM missiles will be given to Pakistan, but with this news coming out, there is talk of upgrading the F-16 fleet of Pakistani Air Force. It further said that the work order is likely to be completed by May 30, 2030.
This comes just days after President Donald Trump’s meeting with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir, in which Trump once again claimed his role in ending the recent military conflict between Islamabad and Delhi.
Upgrade of Pakistan’s F-16 jets?
This has fueled speculation about a possible upgrade of the Pakistani Air Force’s F-16 fleet. According to the Express Tribune report, AMRAAM is only compatible with F-16 fighter aircraft of the Pakistani Air Force. It was reportedly used in the February 2019 conflict with India.
