More than 500 people, including migrant workers from India, celebrated Diwali with joy in Singapore. During the programme, some workers wrote good wishes for their families, which would later be sent to their homes.
According to ‘The Straits Times’ newspaper, Singapore’s Ministry of Labor and ‘Indian Institute of Management Alumni Singapore’ had organized a program to celebrate Diwali at the Flower Field Hall in the popular waterfront area Gardens by the Bay.
Minister of State for Labor Affairs Dinesh Vasu Das, who participated in the program, said that the year 2025 holds special significance as it will be the completion of 60 years of Singapore’s independence. He said that the purpose of inviting the expatriate community to Diwali celebrations is to express Singapore’s gratitude for their contribution.
He said, “We know it is not easy being away from home… so we are here to celebrate the festival together and to show that even if you are away from home, you are not alone in Singapore.
