Tropical storm Fengshen struck northern and central Philippines last week, killing at least six people and forcing more than 22,000 people to flee areas prone to floods and landslides.
The weather forecasting agency said that ‘Fengshen’ moved from Luzon in northern Philippines towards the South China Sea late on Sunday night and during this time strong winds blew at the speed of 65 to 80 kilometers per hour in the area.
The government disaster management agency confirmed six deaths due to the storm. Flooding in several villages worsened Saturday due to high tide in Roxas city in central Capiz province, it said.
According to the agency, one person was reported drowned in flood waters in Roxas, while five people, including two children who were sleeping there, lost their lives when a tree fell on a hut in Pitogo town in eastern Quezon province on Sunday night.
According to the agency, about 14,000 people have been left homeless due to the storm. He said that ‘Fengshen’ is forecast to move towards Vietnam through the South China Sea.
