A new era of gaming begins: Intel’s XeSS-MFG gives AI-powered superpowers to Arc GPU.

Intel not only unveiled its new Panther Lake CPU architecture at this year’s Technology Tour event. placed in frontbut the company has also made a major update to its AI-enabled graphics technology XeSS. With this new update, XeSS is now on par with Nvidia’s DLSS and Intel Arc GPU users will soon be able to take advantage of Multi-Frame Generation (MFG).

The XeSS-MFG technology works much like Nvidia’s DLSS. In this, the GPU renders the frame in the usual way and stores it in VRAM. As soon as the next frame is generated, both the frames are processed with AI algorithm and a new frame is generated in between. This process increases the number of frames on the screen and makes the gaming experience feel very smooth and responsive.

However, the use of multi-frame generation can always affect input lag. The faster normal frames are rendered, the less input lag will be. So experts recommend using it only with upscaling and in games with high frame rates, such as 60 FPS or above.

Intel also showed a demo of XeSS-MFG on its Arc GPU. The Painkiller Reboot game ran 45-50 FPS at 1080p on a Panther Lake laptop, but with 4x multi-frame generation enabled the FPS reached nearly 200. There were no visual artifacts or noticeable input lag during the demo, which clearly shows that the XeSS-MFG technology can significantly improve the gaming experience.

XeSS-MFG is currently only available for Intel Arc GPUs. Intel clarified that there are currently no plans to launch it for other GPUs. The benefit of XeSS technology will be available only to Intel Arc users, but it also means that Intel has further strengthened its hold in graphics technology.
