Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari’s visit to China has launched intense discussions regarding global diplomacy and regional security balance. Indeed, Beijing opened the doors of the Pakistani President, Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) for the Pakistani President. This was not just a formality, but a far -reaching strategic sign. China expressed this step that Pakistan is a reliable participant in defense production and strategic partnership, not just an importer country for it. Zardari, who went on a 10 -day visit to China, is the first foreign head of state to visit this huge campus.
According to Pakistani media, Zardari, who also held the responsibility of the constitutional head of the Pakistani Army, visited the ‘Aviation Industry Corporation of China’ (AVIC) where he was informed about the most advanced military equipment and included specially new fighter aircraft. It included state-of-the-art fighter aircraft like J-10 and J-20, as well as the JF-17 Thunder Project, which is a joint achievement of China and Pakistan. Apart from this, unmanned air vehicles, automated military units and modern command -components also became a topic of discussion.
If seen, this extraordinary step taken by China for the Pakistani President gives new heights to China’s strategic proximity with Pakistan. China has indirectly given a message that it considers Pakistan’s security challenges as its common responsibility.
Let us also tell you that shortly before Zardari’s visit, the Prime Minister of Pakistan and then Army Chief General Asim Munir also reached Beijing. Munir himself met President Xi Jinping, which is a proof of China-freeness of Pakistan’s military and political leadership. In the backdrop of these trips, India’s operation is vermilion, under which terrorists’ bases were targeted in Pakistan and PoK. This operation had revealed Pakistan’s weakness and Islamabad immediately turned to Beijing.
Let us also tell you that Zardari visited the first National Congress memorial of the Communist Party of China in Shanghai and honored China’s global role and praised Pakistan -China’s “friendship of every weather”. During the visit of Zardari, a proposal to establish the Pakistan -China Chamber of Commerce was also revealed. This makes it clear that Beijing does not now want to be limited to only economic or infrastructural investment in Pakistan, but is giving a permanent basis to long -term strategic partnership by combining economic cooperation with defense cooperation.
If seen, this phenomenon gives serious indication for India. On the one hand, India is taking decisive action against terrorism, on the other hand, Pakistan wants to reorganize its security system with the technology and support of China. China appears to be running on the policy of challenging both the global dominance of America and India’s regional role through this cooperation. Therefore, to get Zardari access to the secret military complex, virtually South Asia has to convey the message that Pakistan is no longer alone. China stands behind it, whether it is a supply of defense technology or a plan of joint production.
On the other hand, China’s Foreign Ministry did not give much importance to Zardari’s AVIC tour and strong cooperation with China on defense production. Instead, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spoke of its support for global security cooperation (GSI), which is a Chinese security structure and has been presented as a retaliation of the global dominance of the US.
However, it is clear from Zardari’s visit that China -Pakistan relations have reached a new turn. This alliance is now becoming a “partnership of every front” from the “friendship of every weather”. This equation in South Asia is undoubtedly challenging for India. The question is whether India will reorganize its diplomatic and defense strategy to suit this changing scenario?
